Questions for PlaneWave (Jay @ PlaneWave)

Our goal is to establish a high-directivity RF link from the ground station to a custom cubesat in LEO orbit. The required pointing accuracy is 0.02-0.009 deg/72-32.4 arcsec for a ground station parabolic antenna with a 2 to 5 m of diameter.

Mount/Installation

  1. Would it be possible to install a parabolic dish antenna (2-5 m diameter) onto your mounts? And how could it be done?
  2. Do you offer Alt-Alt configurations for such an antenna?

Pointing

  1. What are the capabilities of the pointing software in terms of LEO satellite tracking?
  2. What information does the pointing software rely on? Any external sources we should procure/be aware of? (NORAD vs OurSky for open loop; startracker for closed loop?)
  3. Does the software includes/supports closed loop tracking? Even with non-optical observation (e.g., power measurements from the antenna)?
  4. How to calibrate with an antenna instead of a telescope? Star Tracker might be an option, but needs proper mounting + collimation. If you would recommend this way, how would you suggest we collimate the dish and the star tracker?
  5. Can we customize the software? E.g., for extra calibration steps?
  6. What are the residual pointing errors that we might need to compensate for when using your XXX mount?

Budget

  1. Do you offer customized solutions, and if so, how do they influence the price?
