🛰️ Mission Overview

TeraLink-1 is a 6U CubeSat mission to establish the world's first sub-terahertz (sub-THz) communication links between a satellite in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) and a ground station. It is a collaboration between NU Satellite Lab (the satellite bus) and Northeastern University's Ultrabroadband Nanonetworking Laboratory (UNLab) (the payload), under the University Nanosatellite Program (UNP).

Mission Objectives

Key Specs at a Glance

• Satellite: 6U CubeSat, ISS orbit (~416 km, 51.6° inclination)
• Carrier frequency: 225 GHz (sub-THz band)
• Target data rate: 100 Mbps (full success: 100+ Mbps with BER < 10⁻⁴)
• Payload: Custom sub-THz SDR (209–240 GHz), developed with NASA JPL front-ends
• Ground station: Hayden Hall rooftop, NU Boston campus
• Faculty Advisor: Dr. Josep M. Jornet
• Launch: Via NASA's CubeSat Launch Initiative (CSLI), ISS deployment (or possibly through UNP if in Phase B)
